Perched atop a picturesque hill in Stanhope, this striking architecturally designed home by Bourne + Blue Architecture is set within a working farm known as ‘Eden.’ Surrounded by rolling hills and expansive rural vistas, the home stands as a modern masterpiece, seamlessly integrating with its natural environment while offering a bold contrast to the pastoral landscape.

The design brief called for a low-maintenance garden that would set the home apart from its surroundings while remaining sympathetic to its architectural form. Drawing inspiration from two distinctive steel ostrich sculptures, Dream Design Scapes crafted a landscape that not only complements the home’s modern aesthetic but also enhances its striking architectural lines.

At the heart of the design is the dramatic front entry, where formed concrete stairs lead visitors toward the home. These structured elements are softened by the surrounding garden, which features carefully selected low-maintenance succulents. The juxtaposition of strong architectural forms with sculptural plantings creates a visually engaging and dynamic approach to the residence.

To further define the landscape, Corten steel edging frames garden beds filled with Deco-Granite gravel mulch, providing a textural contrast that enhances the home’s contemporary appeal. Sculptural elements are thoughtfully positioned throughout, adding artistic interest while seamlessly blending with the rugged rural surroundings. As day transitions to night, outdoor lighting by Gardens at Night transforms the space, casting striking shadows against the home’s exterior walls and creating an ever-changing interplay of light and form.

The result is a landscape that is both functional and visually captivating—one that respects the home’s architectural integrity while embracing the beauty of the surrounding countryside. With an emphasis on minimal maintenance and maximum impact, this design ensures that the outdoor spaces remain effortlessly elegant, enhancing the overall living experience of this extraordinary rural retreat.
