Nelson Bay
Dream Design Scapes was engaged by Rotary Club Nelson Bay to design a community garden space at Tomaree Hospital Nelson Bay.
The scope was design a sensory garden space for the Palliative Care Unit, a space where family of all ages, friends and community can spend time with their loved one, surrounded by beauty, tranquility and nature. The sensory garden utilises the senses, touch, smell, sound and taste with a variety of plants, that encompass you whilst you enjoy the space. The garden includes a wide variety of plants, bringing a mix of native and exotic plants for all season colour and variety. A solar powered water feature adds a touch of tranquility and attracts native wildlife.
Input for the gardens requirements was sought by not only the Rotary Club, but the Tomaree Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, hospital management on all levels and staff. The gardens were designed with the strict guidelines OH&S regulations, with infection control measures and the safety of the community in mind. The gardens were built by the tireless efforts of Rotary Club members led by Doug Craike, utilising the funding from local and state Grants and donations from local businesses and families.
The garden was officially opened by Local MP Meryl Swanson on 23rd September 2023.
